I am a single mom of the two most amazing boys, Shai and Ilan, age 9 and 7 respectively. I might be biased, but they are truly amazing. I have been raising them alone since they were babies.
Health and nutrition have always been an important part of my personal lifestyle, as I am a professional folk dancer and yoga instructor with a passion for organic food and holistic health. But once I became a mother, I found that everything mattered to me even more than it had before.
I wanted to make sure I was providing my kids with the best of everything, and for me, that came in the form of fueling their bodies properly. I was determined to teach my kids about health and nutrition in a world where junk is constantly being thrown in their faces. Our country is so good about marketing to our children with sparkly cereals and bright-colored, processed foods, yet I was determined to keep my kids sheltered from those companies. I knew I had to teach them how to make healthy choices for themselves.
Meanwhile, as I was trying to teach my kids to make healthy choices, I was struggling with my own health. Throughout middle school and high school, I struggled with an eating disorder which only got worse when I found myself in a long-term, verbally and emotionally abusive relationship. The stress of the relationship and how I was made to feel ugly and worthless every day, made me feel like I was never good enough. And even after the relationship was over, I carried those feelings with me. I didn’t want those feelings to trickle down to my sons.
That is when I decided that my health and emotional wellness was just as important, if not MORE important, than simply teaching my kids how to take care of themselves. I tried several avenues, from programs designed for body-builders to fitness groups with friends and everything in-between, including all those workouts you see on infomercials at 4am.
One of those crazy programs I tried was Insanity. The program was amazing and the trainer, Shaun T, was just so motivating!! I would return to that program over and over again, loving it each time. A few years later, I came across P90X, another Beachbody program. I loved the P90X yoga and loved how my body was changing from my own living room!
One day, I was in a Facebook group when someone started talking to me about a new program called the 21 Day Fix. I was skeptical. Insanity was a 60 day program and P90X was a 90 day program and I just didn’t understand how there could be a program that was just as effective but only lasted 21 days. It was also a Beachbody program and focused not only on the workout but also the nutrition, so I decided to give it a try. They had a 100% money back guarantee, so I thought, “why not?” I needed a program that would keep me accountable and keep me on track, especially when it came to nutrition. Honestly, I was tired of being a hypocrite— binge eating at night, starving myself whenever I was under stress, and teaching my kids (and students) one way to live while I was behaving very differently behind closed doors.
I instantly fell in love with the 21 Day Fix because it dialed into the nutritional aspect and really put a focus on community support. I loved it so much that I jumped on board and became a coach to help motivate and teach others everything I had learned from both the program and my own life about health, fitness, and nutrition, and I was eager to share my past mistakes and what I learned from them.
I am happy to say that being a Beachbody Coach has led me to help people emotionally, physically, and mentally, and it has allowed me to combine all of my passions into one single endeavor. The launching of Mycoachmeliss.com is one of the greatest gifts I have given myself and I am excited to share it with all of you.
My passion is helping others and watching people not only reach but CRUSH their goals. Being healthier is an inside-out job; it’s a mind-body-spirit connection. You can’t just fix one part and expect lasting results. I have learned this through experience, and I want to teach you how it is done!
I’m a hard worker and the 5 star reviews I’ve received from past clients is a tribute to the love and energy I put forward into my clients. I want to be your coach and help you through your tough struggles, whatever they may be. Know that you are not alone and having someone here to hold your hand is sometimes all you need to take that leap of faith!
In today’s world there are so many things that can bring us down. It’s hard to find the right guidance because there are a variety of ways to help move through these tough times. I know this first hand as I was a mess after a breakup; a complete and utter mess. I had never felt so low in my life before. I thought I lost the love of my life and the pain was too strong to bare. I fell into a very deep depression, something I had never experienced prior. It was such a dark, lonely, and scary place. I felt like a thick, heavy cloud was suffocating me and pressing down on my chest, making it hard to breathe.
People experience depression in a variety of ways. Sometimes it comes out in anger. Other times it comes out in sadness or confusion. Whatever your method of coping is, I would have loved for someone to step up and give me a well, thought-out plan of how to get me out of my deep depression.
My holistic self never once considered medication. For others, that may be the only way you see fit to uplift yourself. There are no judgements here. You need to do what is best for you; but when I was at my lowest low, I knew there had to be a way out of it without resorting to medication. My mind raced daily in negativity and I really hated life.
If you feel like you are in a place of chaos or unknown havoc, completely flipped-flopped in your emotional state, stressed, embarrassed by your suffering, heartbroken, consumed by your negative thoughts or emotional pain, in a state of depression, overcoming illness, angry, anxious, grieving, experiencing overall overwhelm, or anything else that may be taking over your mind-set, take a deep breath right now and continue reading. I HAVE BEEN THERE! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
Once I finally moved past my heartache (which I never thought I would be able to do), I spoke to everyone I knew about what I had gone through. My close friends and thousands of strangers on the internet heard my story. My subscribers walked side-by-side with me as I experienced and shared my journey. As I updated them, they felt supported through their life struggles and I felt supported by their positive feedback. I found that so many others were going through the same or similar things as I went through and I realized that SOOO many people, just like you and me, were suffering as well.
I felt that I had a moral obligation to share how I was able to change my life, how I continue to work on myself daily, and how I help others through their overwhelm; with everyone that I came in contact with.
That is why I am so passionate about personal development and sharing it with the world. I am committed to helping others escape limiting beliefs. I teach about how to breakdown and overcome life’s challenges and I have coached thousands of people to get back on track after a breakup, job loss, divorce, depression, anxiety, death, financial overturn, weight gain, illness, or general overwhelm.
I want you to get the most out of your life and that is why I created “From Broken Up To Built Up”, my personal development online program, my weekly podcast: “My Coach Meliss Personal Development Podcast”, and my book “Push Positive: Pushing Play on Your Positive Life”.
You can catch me live for my Facebook broadcast: “Push Positive Live” Tuesdays at 11AM EST facebook.com/RevampedLifeATL.
I went through a lot of hard times. It was a cold way to live. There was no clarity, confidence, or strength. I went through several trials and errors- ups, downs, and complete twists and turns that threw me completely off course from where I thought I was going or where I wanted to be.
My life’s passion is to help others. I have found the secret-sauce to happiness and I want to make sure I shout it from the rooftops and share it with all of you!
